CommuterLit has four writing contests per year. Simultaneous submissions, submissions of reprints (stories or poems previously published in print or online) and multipole submissions are welcome. The top five submissions in each contest are posted on CommuterLit and receive cash prizes:
First-place: CA$100
Second-place: CA$50

Halloween Week 2024 — Scary stories (max. word count 4,000). Submission window: Sept. 30 – Oct. 21. Winners will be posted on CommuterLit the week of Oct. 28 – Nov. 1, 2024.
Valentines Week 2025 — Love Stories (max. word count of 4,000). Submission window: Jan. 13-27, 2025. Winning entries will be posted on CommuterLit the week of Feb. 10-14, 2025.
Poetry Week 2025 — Poem or series of poems (max. word count 1000). Submission window: April 7 – 28, 2025. Winning entries will be posted on CommuterLit the week of May 12-16, 2025.
Flash Fiction Week 2025 — Flash Fiction stories (max. word count 500). Submission window: May 19 – June 9, 2025. Winners will be posted on CommuterLit the week of June 23-27, 2024.
Halloween Week 2024 — Scary stories (max. word count 4,000). Submission window: Sept. 30 – Oct. 21. Winners will be posted on CommuterLit the week of Oct. 28 – Nov. 1, 2024.
Please do not submit before the submission window. Please do not submit to General Submissions (if you do, your submissions will not be entered in the contests). Closer to the date, we will post a link to the correct submission portal.
To cover costs, we charge a contest fee of CA$3 per submission.
