FRIDAY NOTES & NEWS: Halloween Week Scary Story Contest Starts on Monday

Mark your calendars! The Submission Window to enter our Halloween Week 2024 scary story contest starts next Monday, Sept. 30 and runs to Oct. 21. We are looking for horror stories, creepy stories or Halloween-themed stories — not stories that just happen to be set around Halloween. The top five best will be posted on CommuterLit the week of Oct. 28 – Nov. 1, 2024. The maximum word-count for entries is 4,000 words. Read more.

PREVIEW FRIDAY
We believe that submissions should be separate from paid advertising. As always, we are open to submissions of excerpts from published novels, collections of stories or memoirs (with a maximum word count of 4,000). Submit the excerpt the usual way through the General Submission process. Whether or not we accept an excerpt is independent from any paid advertising on the site. But the PREVIEW FRIDAY slot will be reserved for submissions that are also advertised that day by a paid ad on the site. If you do not wish to pay for the ad, but we still accept your excerpt, it will run sometime mid week, but not on the PREVIEW FRIDAY slot. The PREVIEW FRIDAY ad includes:

• A headline, image (of the book cover), 50-word promotional copy and a link.

• It will run at the top of the second column on the homepage for one week. The excerpt will be posted on Friday only.

• And two ads in consecutive Monday newsletters.

The cost is $100.

Ad space available on CommuterLit
Ads on the homepage cost $50 per week.

Ads in the weekly newsletter cost $25 per insertion.
