A buzzing of bees on the
11PM 63,
Southbound for cityscapes we can’t afford in daylight.
The occasional tall man in a good coat turns every head,
girls with perfect curls are miraculously warm-looking
in the frosty April wind,
All earlybird-green whispers of spring
gone with the sunset.
Wispy hairs on my neck stand on end
and I stand at attention for the bell,
for the dismissal of my stop,
like my favourite neighbourhood is taking roll call.
This graveyard of winter-coated-hearts is
twitching in its lit-up neon coffin.
A rigorous mortality clings
but snowbells are blooming.
