MONDAY: I Wonder

I wonder
Everybody
loses something —
keys
and
coins
and
letters
from
old lovers
It takes
nearly
a lifetime
to lose
these things
for good —
So
what is
the soul
allowed
to keep
I wonder?

Memories – we keep them – sometimes through items. There is a display right now on at Harbourfront about items that are momentous of our loss. Love and loss seem to shire the same space. You’ve hit on a univeral theme.

A lovely cogitation a la Elizabeth Bishop (The Art of Losing). I wonder if some if these lines would work better being longer. The items could each stay a single word line. A fitting conclusion ?. Thank you Pat.

How whimsical and lovely. You have made me think and smile at the same time. Thank-you.

Interesting question. I believe the answer is: nothing, at least nothing from this world.

I always wanted to see more poetry on this site, and I look forward to a week’s worth.
