Shadowed valley

Speckled with stars

My eye scurries over

Your many-legged viaduct

Like a gleaming millipede

Beneath the fridge

Of twilight

My virgin gaze

From train window

Folds up your fields

In the night’s black napkin

And carried them home

A snack of dark

Between streetlamps

Then, from black,

A vast nose arises

Its ridge a white cliff

Its nostrils grey gorges

I am reflected, I see

My sadness on the land

But just for a second

I was that black valley

I strode as a viaduct

My mouth was the night
