CommuterLit‘s last newsletter and last week of postings for the year will be Dec. 14-19. We’ll be back with a new post and newsletter on Monday, Jan. 5, 2026.
CommuterLit editor Nancy Kay Clark is participating in November’s Novel Writing Challenge (Write 50,000 words of a draft by the end of the month). Her current word count is: 19,059.
Reports Nancy: “Scattered throughout this very rough first draft are notes to myself in parentheses — so the actual word count of the story is probably a lower than this total. Also, I don’t know if anyone else does this, but when writing a first draft what comes quickly to me is the dialogue. So I end up with whole pages of dialogue and then I go back afterwards and fill in the descriptions and internal thoughts.”
Anybody else taking up the challenge? How are you doing?
Let us know.

Thanks for letting us know. What are you writing about? Will you share sample chapters after December 19?
