MONDAY: Family Reunion

I wade into the room
On ham like thighs
Medication thickened ankles
And swollen feet.

On thorough bred legs
A ballet of motion
Nervous tossing of manes
Eyes darting round the room.

Stamping, snorting
A saccharine smile
Lips pulled back
Patronizing celebration of my minutiae.

Then turn as one a quiet shuffle
Wickers, neighing
Hair twitched over shoulders
Impenetrable solidarity.

Not a particularly happy reunion for the swollen footed one — it is, I assume, intended irony to speak of this as “my minutiae.” Nice imbedded image of the colts.
